A Slice ‘n’ Dice of PSN Updates
An exclusive Ninja Gaiden Sigma tops off the latest in PlayStation Store updates.
Published: April 26, 2007
So we hear someone here is fan of ninjas? No? Don’t want to admit to it, do you? Ok, we’ll just call them “masked crusaders whose sharp reflexes and even sharper katanas never fail to dispose of the oncoming masses.” But you like ‘em, right? Ok, we thought so, which why we figured you’d really dig this latest Thursday update to the PlayStation Store. Highlighted by an exclusive demo of Tecmo’s Ninja Gaiden Sigma (which Eidos Interactive will be bringing your way this summer, Eurogamers), the additions cover some substantial ground of recent and upcoming PS3 releases, including a Virtua Tennis 3 demo and trailer of SOE’s forthcoming (most likely) 1080p testament to Gauntlet II.
Here’ the official list, since we like our updates all bullet-y ‘n’ stuff.
[demos]
-- Ninja Gaiden Sigma (free): Play as Master Ninja, Ryu Hayabusa and infiltrate your way into the Vigoor Empire destroying evil ninjas and demons as you attempt to overthrow the Empire, exact revenge on your enemies, and reclaim the Dark Dragon Blade.
-- Virtua Tennis 3 (free): The fun, addicting, award-winning series continues with Virtua Tennis 3. With ultra-realistic graphics and precise player control, gamers will hit the court and play as or against today’s tennis elite including Federer, Sharapova, Roddick, Nadal, and Williams.
[trailers / videos]
-- Gauntlet II (free): Check out this video for Gauntlet II, where you can re-experience the classic dungeon crawler and play as the Warrior, Valkyrie, Elf, or Wizard!
-- The Wheelman (free): Vin Diesel is The Wheelman, who must prove himself to the Barcelona underworld using his incredible driving skill.
-- Stranglehold (free): Continue the story of John Woo’s influential action film, Hard Boiled, engaging your enemies in intense cinematic gun battles. (or check out the super-awesome trailers we added!)
-- The Godfather (free): Experience the excitement of the legendary films and work toward becoming a Don in America’s most powerful criminal organization—the Corleone Family.
In other but totally non-chest-pounding sounding news, SCEA has relayed information from Home Media Research sales figures published this week, showing Blu-ray Disc sales to have accounted for 70 percent of high-def film purchases in Q1 2007. Now how many sales those were is a different story, but it was apparently enough to make Blu-ray the first high-definition format to sell more than a million discs, done so in less than a year.
Hooray for vague achievements! Now go play those demos.
