Who's True to John Woo? You?

There could be a cool $25,000 in it for you if you are. Read on for more details.

So just how big of a fan of John Woo are you? Seen all the movies? Know every single line of Hard Boiled in English and Cantonese? Do doves take off in slo-motion all around you? Do you often get into gun battles with dual pistols that never seem to run out of ammo? Good, good, then you just might have what it takes to do the man justice. Might.

See, Midway is ponying up $25,000 to the winner of their new True to John Woo Short Film Contest. The rules couldn't be simpler: just create a short film that's as authentic as possible to the cinematic stylings of the action movie master himself. The winner will pocket $25K, an Amp'd Mobile phone with six months of free service, a copy of Stranglehold (it's what this contest is all about, after all), a Woo-signed Hard Boiled poster and the premiere on Spike TV's Game Head show.

But wait, there's more! 10 runners-up will have their videos kicked up on the official MySpace Stranglehold page to let the audience decide on a runner-up. That runner up will pocket $1000 and the same goodies as the winner (minus the appearance on Game Head, mind).

"Stranglehold's cinematic action is directly inspired by John Woo's acclaimed action films and their unique style," explains Mona Hamilton, Midway's VP of marketing. "We've created a premier collaboration with Spike TV and Fox Interactive Media's MySpace and IGN Entertainment sites that gives fans the opportunity to put their creativity to the test with a short film judged by John Woo himself."

"Young filmmakers need encouragement to grow; it is an aspect of my profession which I cherish deeply," said action director John Woo. "I know the Stranglehold Short Film Contest will find new talent and with it, new possibilities."

Yes, you read that right. In the spirit of buying as much cross-promotional goodies as they can between all of Fox's properties, a microsite on IGN will be kicked up right around the time the contest starts on April 30th. The videos will be judged with a 40/40/20% split between overall quality (graded on image quality, editing, technical production, sound and of course cinematography), the strength of the homage (including how well classic Woo techniques are incorporated along with the strength and quality of the homage itself) and creativity (acting, screenplay, overall presentation).

That official MySpace page has all the legalese and more details, so head on over and tell 'em TotalPlayStation sentcha. Good luck!
