So there’s this whole new multi-console Star Wars game you might want to know about…

Seldom a day when arrives when a press release concerning an official website launch is able to shockwaves through the office. We present to you the matter at hand:

“The official website for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has launched! You and your readers can check out www.theforceunleashed.com for details about the next chapter in the Star Wars saga, which casts players as Darth Vader’s “Secret Apprentice” and promises to unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy.”

That’s right, this is the same Star Wars game that, up until now, was not only under a tentative title, but was widely considered to only have been next-gen bound since its announcement at E3 2006. You can imagined how surprised we were to find out that the new edition, now officially named, would be making its rounds on all three Sony systems, and in an established timeframe: November 2007.

Did we mention we finally know what the game’s about? It seems players will be seeing the role of, as mentioned, Darth Vadar’s “Secret Apprentice” (a title Donald Trump couldn’t even top) in his nefarious plans to wipe out the Jedi from the universe. Under the wing of George Lucas, the game will tell its expansive story in the hazy era between Episodes III and IV.

Fittingly for its next-gen leap, The Force Unleashed has incorporated just about every notable, state-of-the-art technology out there: the tried and true Havok Physics system, NaturalMotion’s euphoria ensures realistic character movement and behavior, and for the first time, Digital Molecular Matter (DMM) from Pixelux Entertainment takes into account actual physical properties of all environmental objects, meaning wood and glass will break like they should and Felucia’s plants will bend like, well, Felucia’s plants.

Throw in a cast of new and returning faces (the former including fugitive Jedi to Force-sensitive Felucians), a host of familiar locations – from the Wookiee homeworld Kashyyyk to the junky Raxus Prime and even an Imperial TIE fighter construction facility – and a story that renders multiple endings based on character decisions and, what do you know, we’ve got ourselves another Star Wars game worth lusting after. November’s a ways away, but that newly-launched website should tickle your fancy in the meantime.
