Sonic Unleashed Details Unleashed On the Masses
Worst kept secret drops the secrecy.

Regarded as the worst kept secret across the industry, Sega has finally revealed the next installment of 3D Sonic. That's right, Sonic Unleashed is coming to every conceivable platform, including PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2. But of course you heard about that a couple weeks ago. What you didn't hear, however, were details!
Emeralds are the name of the game this time around... wait, that's the name of the game every time around! Well, regardless, Dr. Eggman has broken up the world and Sonic, being the brave soul he is, needs to grab those chaos emeralds and reassemble it. This time, though, instead of flaming arrows, or racing boards, or any of that other pointless crap, Sonic will be using his amazing running abilities to navigate the levels. I know... what a concept. Sega promises that day and night will also play a key role in the game.
"It is an exciting time for the Sonic franchise as we look to reinvent our hero while staying true to the spirit of what made him an industry icon," said Sean Ratcliffe, Vice President of Marketing at SEGA of America. "Sonic Unleashed will introduce a new, unexpected storyline along with innovative gameplay that compliments traditional skills and features, allowing players to experiment and engage in new ways."
There are four new speed mechanics in the game and a combat system. Yes, Sonic will get his “Street Fighter” on in this adventure.
But what defines this game better than any others in the 3D series to date is the camera placement and the way Sonic interacts with his world. This is Sonic the way should have always been: classic 2D running with Sonic as the star and not his friends. Built with what is being dubbed the “Hedgehog Engine,” the game throws around some impressive lighting and rendering that takes into account Sonic's epic speed.
Sonic Team hopes to get this one out by holiday 2008. I'm crossing my fingers for it. This could be one of the must-have games of the season. Make it so!
