SEGA Courts Mascots for More Sports

Get it? Courts? Cause we're talking about SEGA Superstars Tennis. Like a tennis cour-awww, screw it.

SEGA is not without their stable of mascots. From Ulala (of Space Channel 5 fame) to Aiai from Super Monkey Ball to the 80 bazillion weirdos from all the Sonic games that aren't 1/100th as cool as Sonic actually is, there's plenty of fodder for a mascot reunion. Which is probably why The Big S tapped long-time collaborators SUMO Digital (they did the 360 version of Virtua Tennis 3, don'cha know) to craft a new tennis game starring all them thar characters.

SEGA Superstars Tennis, they're calling it, and the total roster of characters tops out at more than 15, which has us scratching our heads as to what kind of characters will actually show up (only the ones we've mentioned plus Amigo from Sambo de Amigo have been announced so far). Hopefully it's less crap like Big The Cat and more stuff like, say... Knuckles... or... something.

Ah, but how does the game play? We'd like to know just as much as you, but given SUMO's track record, we're expecting something that straddles the line between sim and arcade game nicely, and plays equally well on both the PS3 and the PS2 (yes, they're still cranking out games for it).

Sega Superstars Tennis delivers a fun and fresh new take on tennis,” boasts Rick Naylor, SEGA of America's Director of Marketing. “From its pick-up-and-play arcade action to its exciting roster of fan-favorite characters and settings, Sega Superstars Tennis has something for everyone.”

Well, there you go. Naylor don't lie, people. Not unless he has to. And when he does, you'll never know. Updates as we get 'em.
