Resident Evil 5

A trailer and new screens so friggin' freaky that we couldn't even think up a cool strapline for this story. Seriously, clicky.

While nobody will dispute the fact that Resident Evil 4 was nothing short of a complete ground-up reboot of the franchise and quite possibly the best in the entire series, there are those that probably wish it hadn't moved so much to the action side of the puzzle. We see it as a small concession, since the action, camera, graphics, gameplay, length and replay value are all through the roof, but we'll admit we did miss some of the creepier moments from time to time.

Well hooray, it looks like Capcom is all too eager to scare the piss out of everyone, but rather than doing it with zombie dogs through windows or a monster that chases you through most of the game, they're actually basing the game proper on just fighting dudes in broad daylight. We'll say that again: at least a significant portion of Resident Evil 5 will take place in the harsh sunlight.

But then that's the idea. As you'll see in the trailer and screenshots we kicked up, the game actually uses the natural transitions and the length of time needed to adjust from bright light to pitch black as a way of creeping you out. What could be scarier than running away from a bunch of now-speedy zombie-like folks only to duck into a house and as the light levels re-balance, you're greeted by the sight of three more kinda-zombies already lurching for your face. See? Creepy.

So yeah, head on over to the RE5 game page and check out the new movies and screens for yourself. Or, uh, you can just scroll up to the top of the page and click the links for youself. Y'know, whatever floats yer boat.
