NBA Street Bounces to PS3

EA's peerless arcade basketball series is about to get a next-gen boost.

The more things change, it's been said, the more they stay the same. Despite noble attempts at duplicating the formula with other popular sports, EA has really only struck gold with one over-the-top arcade sport: basketball. Any arcade goer in the early to mid-nineties could have told you the same: NBA Jam was a perfect mix of basketball fundamentals with... um... well, guys doing cartwheels forty feet into the air and then dunking the ball. And yet, EA has tried to get lighting to strike thrice outside of their street ball offering, with both soccer and football entires.

The difference, of course, is that for all the over-the-top bits that the series has had, the second breakout title from EA's BIG lineup still stayed rooted in nigh-universal roundball truisms. And now, finally, NBA Street is headed to the PlayStation 3. It was inevitable, really, as sure a thing as a next-gen SSX, and when that day comes, office will be consumed with drunken glee. News should be fun that day, but we digress.

NBA Street PS3 is an evolution of the themes introduced in NBA Street V3, whereby fictitious ballers and real-life legends are blended into one. If the teaser trailer that we've posted (go watch it!) is any indication, the inclusion of former-street-ballers-turned-pro is going to be the main difference, as the trailer highlights Carmello Anthony. A sort of "hyper-real" (their words, not ours) world that still delivers street ball, but offers some gravity defying stuff. In other words, it's a pretty version of what you've already played.

"Since its unveiling in 2001, NBA Street has always raised the bar with innovative gameplay and fresh visuals," boasts Wil Mozell, executive producer on the project. "The power of the Next Generation hardware gives us the horsepower to break new ground for consumers, making it the perfect stage for the next iteration of NBA Street. Casual gamers and sports fans can still expect 'easy to pick-up and difficult to master' gameplay, with progressive visuals and some of the biggest gameplay moments in action sports."

And now you officially know as much as we do. If more info spills out, we'll be all over it. Check back soon.
