Golden Hoops

It's what all those NBA players play on at home, y'know.

Well folks, that's a wrap. After months of spoon-feeding us info on the game, NBA 2K7 has finally been finished. On the PlayStation 2. We've discussed the cover athlete this year (it's Shaq), we've talked about the new camera, motion captured animations and presentation, and we've even discussed the fact that A Tribe Called Quest is reuniting to collaborate on the game and use it as a promotional aid. And now all of these things have come to a head as the game has gone gold. On the PlayStation 2.

“I’m very excited and proud of our finest basketball video game title to date,” stated the always quote-ready Greg Thomas, president of Visual Concepts, a 2K Sports studio. “NBA 2K7 truly delivers the next generation features in both graphics and gameplay that sports gamers have been wanting for years. I’m really pleased with the hard work and creative thinking our development team has put into this title.”

In case you hadn't noticed, we're still almost two months away from the PlayStation 3 launch, which means releasing a copy of NBA 2K7 for the PS3 would make no effin' sense right now. The development team at Visual Concepts has put the Xbox 360, vanilla Xbox and PS2 versions to bed, but they can still tweak things for the November release of the PS3. Hooray!

Of course, if you can't wait that long, you're not really stuck. For Sony purists, there's always the PS2 version for now (which will technically play on your PS3 -- and upscaled to hi-def), but others may want to wait to see if the PS3 version will include all these fancy-pants next-gen additions and look as good in motion as it does in [ps3media=110]those screens they released last week[/ps3media]. Either way, if 2K is your brand of hoops sim, you'll have access to it come next week.
