The Orange Box Is Coming
What the shizz is an orange box, and why should you care? BECAUSE WE SAID SO (also, because it's Half-Life 2-related).

Hey, remember a while back when EA announced that they'd be publishing all of Valve's future games, and then remember when they announced that those games would be Half-Life 2, Half-Life: Episode One, Half-Life: Episode Two, Team Fortress 2 and Portal? Yeah, that was pretty awesome. But it did present a problem. You can't call it the Half-Life 2 And Also Episode One and Two And Also Team Fortress 2 AND Also Portal Mega-Pack because that won't fit on a game box. Also, it's improper grammar. Also, it's a dumb name.
But you can call it The Orange Box. See, along with orangey, there's also The Black Box, but you needn't concern yourself with that, as it's a) PC-only and b) doesn't include Half-Life 2 nor HL2: Episode One. Our friend orangey does. And really, that's the only distinction. EA and Valve needed a proper name for the collection, and they thought it best to associate them with the two colors from the Half-Life logo. Clever, we think, but it's time for some quotes from people who hate the PS3!
“In less than 18 months, we’ve shipped 10 new products to retail outlets with EA Partners,” wheezed Gabe Newell, co-founder of Valve. “The Black Box and The Orange Box represent a new approach to publishing multiple products, on multiple platforms and we know through our experience that no organization in the industry is better equipped to successfully launch new product types on multiple platforms than EA Partners.”
“Valve is one of the world’s premiere independent developers and EA Partners is thrilled to help them bring the groundbreaking action games in The Orange Box and The Black Box to market as their publishing partner,” reiterated David DeMartini, VP and GM of EA Partners and Master of Saying the Same Thing Only Slightly Differently.
We're sure the two of them will make sweet, sweet publishing love when the Half-Life smorgasbord arrives this Fall. Until then, we'll sit here and come up with new collections of games and give them colored box names. What can we use for The Pink Box... Hmmm....
