A HEI$T is in Progress
And Codemasters is committing it, with their new next-gen bank robbin’ game set in San Francisco of ’69.

For as many sandbox-style, mission-based games we’ve seen these last five years or so, it’s somewhat bewildering that developers haven’t done all that much to elaborate on the concept. Like how about an all-out bank robbing game? Maybe set it in a prime time for money lustin’ – oh, say the summer of love, 1969, in sunny San Francisco – and, you know, have your character lead some crackteam of criminals, stealing your way across the city with one meticulously planned heist after the other.
Of course, this is all very hypo—whaa? You say Codemasters has announced a game just like that? Well we’ll be damned!
“We designed HEI$T so that players feel like a part of the best robberies and car chases from classic movies,” grins Maxx Kaufman, Creative Director at inXile Entertainment. “Everything from the different types of jobs to pull and the reckless pursuits by the police through the streets of San Francisco, to the sarcastic banter back and forth between the members of the crew gives HEI$T the action and style of the great attitude and rock-driven films of the 60’s.”
And attitude is something players are sure to find plenty of, as they take charge of Johnny Sutton, fresh off a jail sentence and more importantly, descendent of the infamously thieving family (heh heh). Together with his Uncle Sal and a reunited crew of criminals, the gang will hit the hilly streets of ‘frisco, pulling off dozens of heists before they can score a jackpot at the Mint.
With heists becoming increasingly more difficult (as each bank has its own unique security system), players will have to expand their business to bars, restaurants, strip clubs, armored cores and other key locations to acquire the proper tools for those banks. And the job ain’t over ‘til you lose the fuzz, as you’ll have to take part in some high-speed getaways while the police do everything in their power to take you out, from friendly bumps to barricades and PIT maneuvers. Bank robbery is not petty crime in this town, even if that is where the money’s at.
HEI$T, currently in the works at inXile Entertainment, is set to knock off retailers this fall. For now, a pair of screens await you.
