Guitar Hero III: $115 Million in a Week, Activision Gives Away A NEW CAAAR!
Yep, those are just North American numbers, and yep, it's competition time.

Want to know how popular Guitar Hero III is? Okay, picture a game coming out on the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360 and in just seven days generating more than $115 Million. Oh, and that's only in North America, the game has yet to be released in Europe (Japan? Well, let's just say the game isn't a runaway success there; they've got Guitar Freaks). That's how popular the game is, which is to say really freakin' popular.
“Guitar Hero III is the game that everyone is talking about. It is the only video game to make the Toys "R" Us Hot Toy list for 2007 and Toy Wishes’ Hot Dozen 2007, which forecast the most popular holiday gifts of the season. Despite having significantly increased our production capabilities for the holiday, there is still a high likelihood that we will not be able to meet demand for this game on every platform,” gloated one Robert Kotick, Chairman and CEO of Activision.
By the sound of Activision's marketing efforts, though, they aren't terribly worried. The game will be making a one month, eight city tour, stopping at Hot Topic stores (hahaha, yeah, shaddap) with the winners in each city getting a $100 gift certificate. The regional winners will then play and submit their two top scores on a song yet to be determines, with the two top scores netting the players a trip down to LA to square off with the overall winner walking away with a 2008 Pontiac G5.
The contest is open to folks 16 and older, and though walk-ups are possible, they aren't likely, so if you can brave a Hot Topic for a few minutes, you can get over to the following malls starting at 10:30AM five days before the show, but do it before 5:00PM the night before the contest or you're SOL. Here's the list of the cities, dates and locations:
Date -- City -- Mall
11/8 -- Orland Park, IL (Chicago) -- Orland Square
11/12 -- Paramus, NJ (New York/Newark) -- Garden State Plaza
11/15 -- Buford, GA (Atlanta) -- Mall of Georgia
11/19 -- Austin, TX -- Barton Creek
11/26 -- Phoenix, AZ -- Metro Center Mall
11/29 -- Las Vegas, NV -- Meadows Mall
12/3 -- Northridge, CA (Los Angeles) -- Northridge Fashion Center
12/5 -- San Francisco, CA -- San Francisco Center
We'll see you bitches in San Fran! Wooooo!
