[Pre-E3 2006] Full Auto 2 PS3 Exclusive

Hear that? It's the sound of muted excitement.

SEGA resumed their train of nightly updates with a particularly interesting little announcement: Full Auto 2 is coming to just one system, and it ain't the Xbox 360 where the series got started.

This is probably not causing anyone but the most hardcore Sony freaks to jump for joy; the first Full Auto was a novel concept, bringing together car combat and racing with heavily destructible environments, but it seemed rather heavily flawed, and the critical reception was anything but universally positive.

Still, that doesn't mean Vancouver-based Pseudo Interactive didn't learn from the first game. Though they'll be shifting gears to a completely different console (and with it a unique processor style), it would appear the team is already building off the comments made after the first game's release; more destruction in the environments (including the ability to create new paths, close off shortcuts to keep opponents from zipping ahead, or in a nod to beloved Psynosis racer Rollcage, crush them under a slab of building), more vehicle types and heavier customization of the paint, weapons and wheels.

"The destructible environments in Full Auto 2: Battlelines are both stunning and strategic, especially in multiplayer combat," said the always quote-ready Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. "The gameplay innovations of tactical destruction and team multiplayer vehicular mayhem combined with the tremendous power of Sony's PLAYSTATION 3 console makes this sequel truly the next generation of combat racing."

If you're looking for numbers, here's the poop: 25 vehicles ranging from muscle cars to industrial (we're thinking construction maybe?) to SUVs with 20 weapons loadouts across 20 tracks in six districts of Staunton City. A beefed up online mode mixes team-based and all-out deathmatch types with multiple objectives across six different gameplay types. Wow, that's a lot of 20s and sixes.

We'll have more info as soon as its pumped out, but much like SEGA Rally Revo which was announced last week, the game has yet to be approved by Sony, but then offering up an exclusive franchise is probably a good way to scoot the approvals process along, eh? Screens and more info as we get closer to E3 next week.
