Fight Night Round 3 Hits PS3 Launch

After debuting the game on the PS3 at E3 two years ago? Who would have thought it?

It's always fun to try to compile a list of launch titles for a console release, and by fun we mean it's like trying to herd a bunch of roaches on speed underneath an upturned coffee can, which is why you haven't seen an attempt by us to make a list. Cause bugs are icky. Titles slip in and out of being rumored to be on the list, retailers constantly shuffle release dates and the publishers, they just stay mum until the final weeks before the launch.

So we wait... and watch... and probably drink a little.

Fortunately, things are starting to shape up quickly. EA has announced that the very same game they first demonstrated as a canned tech demo at E3 2005, the one that has already hit the Xbox 360, will conclusively make the PlayStation 3 launch. Fight Night Round 3 is coming. It's certainly no surprise, but it is nice to have confirmation that Kudo "I survived 3D0" Tsunoda's baby will be making its way to our darling little half-thousand pound console.

"Gamers loved the realism of EA Sports Fight Night Round 3 when it was released on Xbox 360 because of its incredible next-gen graphics and gameplay," began Michael Blank, producer at EA Canada. "With EA Sports Fight Night Round 3 for PlayStation 3, we want to give gamers an exciting and unique gameplay experience that will take the realism of Fight Night even further by allowing players to live the game through their own eyes. This is the closest you'll get to trading blows with Muhammad Ali."

So is anything new being poured into a game that will hit Sony's uberconsole almost nine months later? Sure, plenty, but EA's only spilling the beans on a little of it so far. Beyond the claims of "exclusive gameplay features" all we really know so far is that the game will boast a new mode, dubbed Get in the Ring and that it'll happily accept the warm embrace of the ESPN license for news, podcasts, scores, and updates -- certainly not a bad start.

But what of the motion-sensing goodies found in the PS3 controller? Still no concrete mention of them, but if there was a game that would benefit from the ability to not just tilt, but actually use the controller's ability to detect movement in space, this is it. Hopefully we'll hear more in the very near future. Until then, keep your eyes peeled for proper screens.
