EA Preps an Iconic Soundtrack

Look, we know it's a lame headline, but c'mon, it's Friday.

With EA shifting gears, dropping former series developer AKI and adopting a bear hug approach to the hip-hop lifestyle with their latest rapper-fueled brawler, Def Jam: Icon a soundtrack fueled by rap and hip-hop was inevitable. In fact, given that the game uses music from the actual artists in the game as a catalyst for the action (see [ps3preview=5727]our preview for more info[/ps3preview), it was a certainty.

And now, finally we have that soundtrack list. Not surprisingly, it's peppered with multiple tracks from characters like Redman, Ludacris, The Game and Lil Jon, and folks from EA and Def Jam alike are high on the addition of all the new tracks. No, seriously, just listen to 'em:

Steve Schnur, Worldwide Executive of Music and Music Marketing at EA started the love-in off with a bang, “Def Jam: Icon is the pinnacle of interactive music entertainment. For years, we have been leading the way in game soundtracks and this year we take it to an all new level with the fully interactive Def Jam: Icon soundtrack. It is a real breakthrough that will forever change the relationship between music and gameplay.”

“The Def Jam Interactive/EA partnership continues to be one centered around innovation. For the first time in any video game, the music is completely interactive. Def Jam: Icon allows players to use these songs, as opposed to playing them in the background. And not only is there an incomparable soundtrack of today and tomorrow’s hottest music, but now we guarantee the player with an authentic hip-hop lifestyle experience”, finished Def Jam Enterprises VP of Marketing, Lauren Wirtzer.

Curious about the lineup? Kay, here ya go:

Like we said, it's hip-hop-a-licious. Now bear in mind that -- at least in the 360 version (and we're praying it happens with the PS3 one as well), you'll be able to load up your own custom tracks and use those as your musical weapon, so even if you hate hip-hop with the red-hot fury of a thousand suns, you can rock out to your own tunes and still but a hurtin' on some rappers. Win-win!
