[Shipping Out] March 27th, 2008

Samurai, Ninjas, Vikings, and Viruses. This is one heck of a busy week.

Published: March 27, 2008
Welcome to Shipping Out, our weekly notice of all them thar games that ship from publishers to retailers in preparation for their street date a day later. In many cases, these games won't be on store shelves until tomorrow, but in the interest of getting the word out, letting the PR departments have their fancy quotes and saving us sanity as the weekly releases pile up, we're going to be consolidating everything down into one handy little news story at the end of the day, along with this description. Neat, eh? And lazy!

[PlayStation Portable]

[Warriors Orochi]
KOEI's filling in the gaps of Samurai-dom with Warriors Orochi for the PSP. A crossover of Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors, Warriors Orochi throws players into massive battlefields where they can choose among 70 different playable characters. Along with a friend, players can play the game in 2-player co-op mode via wireless ad-hoc.

Features like “Team Battle System” and “Weapon Fusion” are in the game, allowing players to create three-person tag teams while also combining the attributes from different weapons for “massive damage”.

The game is rated “T” for Teen.

[PlayStation 2]

[Obscure: The Aftermath]
Time to add a little horror in your life. Ignition Entertainment Ltd. has released Obscure: The Aftermath on the masses.

A captivating soundtrack provided by the Boston String Quartet and Paris Opera Children's Choir will assault your senses as you delve into what is promised to be one of the most chilling games of the year. Obscure: The Aftermath follows the survivors of the original Obscure, who are now enrolled at Fallcreek Unversity. But history is bound to repeat itself, as a strange black flower has sprung up around campus. As students begin experimenting with the substance, they quickly learn that the drug induced trip is far from fictional; it's reality.

Obscure: The Aftermath is rated “M” for Mature and will set you back $19.99.

[Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 3]
Ninjas everywhere! Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 3 lands on a PS2 near you today. Following in its predecessor's footsteps, Ultimate Ninja 3 perfects the anime fighting game art, delivering more than 40 playable characters, 20 stages, and all new moves. Players can jump right into the story with Hero's History mode while customizing their characters with Ultimate Jutsu. Summon giant creatures to your aid in the all new Summoning Mode. Even explore a new 3D village known as Hidden Leaf Village in the new story while participating in battle royale styled matches and 55 unique missions.

There's so much ninja in this game, you'll have a ninja overload. The game is rated “T” for Teen and retails for $39.99.

[PlayStation 3]

[Viking: Battle for Asgard]
There's just not enough Nordic heroes in today's media. Sega hopes to remedy that with Viking: Battle for Asgard. Thrown into a mythological world set with demons unleashed by Hel, the Norse goddess of the underworld, players take on the role of Skarin, a Viking hero who wages war against the onslaught in a bid to free mankind from the threat of total annihilation. Players will get the chance to command dragons and wield the elements while laying waste to hundreds of warriors at once. All sorts of graphic debauchery explode on screen as players upgrade their combat skills along the way.

It goes without saying that Viking: Battle for Asgard is rated “M” for Mature. The game can be yours for only $59.95. Go grab it today.

[Dark Sector]
Finally! It's about time this game came out. Now players can jump into the shoes of Hayden Tenno, an operative sent into the eastern European city of Lasria. During his mission, Hayden is attacked by an unknown assailant and infected by the Technocyte Virus, a bio-weapon that changes its victims into killing machines. Hayden survives the attack and must learn to use and evolve with his newfound powers before the virus destroys him.

“The time has come at last to raise the pulse rates of game players everywhere,” said Yoji Takenaka, executive vice president and chief operating officer, D3PA. “Dark Sector is a game about evolution, and we are confident gamers are going to be very happy to see exactly what that means as D3Publisher and Digital Extremes evolve the next-generation experience with a brand new game engine and superhuman abilities unlike anything before.”

The game is running on the Evolution Engine, a propriety technology developed by Digital Extremes, co-creators of Epic's highly-touted Unreal franchise. With all this polish, there's plenty of blood and gore in the title, which is why it's earned an “M” for Mature rating. But rest assured, that's worth the $59.95 you'll fork over to get your hands on it.
