Activision Snags AIAS Honors
Four awards for three games. Not too shabby, we'd say.

The D.I.C.E. Summit, an annual meeting of the video game minds that throws both developers and businessmen together (think the Game Developer's Conference but smaller and with less people begging for jobs) into a few days of shooting the shiznit and collaboration of ideas, is just about finished up now.
While D.I.C.E. is certainly entertaining and oft times informative (Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios head cheese Phil Harrison actually coughed up a couple interesting tidbits), it's the Jay Mohr-hosted Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences Awards at Vegas' Hard Rock Hotel where bragging rights are earned.
Impressively, Acitivision managed to pull down quadruple honors for Guitar Hero II, Call of Duty 3 and Tony Hawk's Project 8, earning Family Game of the Year/Outstanding Achievement in Soundtrack, Outstanding Achievement in Sound Design and Sports Game of the Year, with respects.
“We’re thrilled that Guitar Hero II, Call of Duty 3 and Tony Hawk’s Project 8 have been recognized by the Academy as three of the best games of 2006,” beamed Robin Kaminsky, Executive VP of Activision Publishing. “The development teams are all dedicated to delivering top quality gaming experiences and these awards are a testament to their talent and hard work.”
Congrats to the boys and girls at Activision (or, perhaps more appropriately, the boys and girls at Harmonix, Treyarch and Neversoft). With games like Gears of War practically sweeping the awards show and publishers like Capcom (justifiably) bitching about not being included because of not paying AIAS dues, it's still fun to see ATVI snagging a handful of awards.
