Multiplayer Blast Factor and Jet Moto PSN-Bound

And all you've gotta do it pay for it! Hooray!

One of the guilty pleasures of the PlayStation 3 launch has been Blast Factor. Bluepoint Games' downloadable shooter may be passed off by most as a Geometry Wars/Mutant Storm rip-off with SIXAXIS gimmicks tacked on -- and we're certainly not going to deny that because, well, it is -- but they forget that that magic combo can make for a game that culls the most obsessive "just one more try" impulses from those playing, especially if you've got some friends to compete against.

There was one little thing missing from the game, though: multiplayer. Local, online, anything. It's not a huge deal, since we have just as much fun trying to out-do our friends' scores, but it was something that we wouldn't have minded.

Well hold the phone, Nancy, because it looks like enough people were vocal about it that Sony Computer Entertainment America and Bluepoint are readying a multiplayer bonus pack. There are a couple catches, however: the up to 4-player co-op and versus action is strictly local -- no online multiplayer -- and you have to pay for it if you want it that bad, to the tune of $2.99. Along with multiplayer functionality, you'll also get the option to kick on an improved 150% speed boost if that's your thing.

Also being added to the PlayStation Store is a download for your PSP in the form of the hovercraft racer Jet Moto, one of developer Singletrac's (who later largely became Incognito Studios) best franchises for the original PS one. The emulated title is still only playable on the PSP right now, but Sony has promised that PS one titles downloaded from the PlayStation Store will eventually work on the PS3 -- we're guessing it's right around the time that big March firmware update arrives.

We'll keep you posted on future additions to the store and firmware as they're released.
