Make Room for Bad Company

A new Battlefield game is hitting next-gen consoles whether you like it or not!

For as much heat as Electronic Arts has gotten of the years for its, shall we say, “unsportsmanlike conduct,” the company has always been reasonably generous to its vast demographic. EA has gone from racking up unprecedented support from PC gamers with franchises like The Sims to sharing the wealth with console and handheld gamers with subsequent releases. And why, just look at the Battlefield series: the traditionally multiplayer experience for the PC crowd gave console gamers darn good reason to get in on the action, thanks to last year’s Battlefield 2: Modern Combat.


And wouldn’t you know it? With a war cry that calls for blatant disregard for the rules of engagement, the franchise is marking its territory on next generation consoles with Battlefield: Bad Company.

"The heart of DICE's multiplayer games is the frenetic, unpredictable nature of the sandbox experience, where anything could happen at any moment, and that's what we're bringing to the core of Battlefield: Bad Company's single-player campaign, bellowed Karl Magnus Troedsson, senior producer at DICE. "In a world that's 90 percent destructible, the gameplay possibilities are infinite -- the battlefield is always changing, forcing players, teammates, and enemies to react accordingly. Gamers will have total freedom to adapt to and tackle challenges in creative Battlefield-style ways."

The title looks to be a heck of a feat for Swedish developer Digital Illusions, who has built the game from the ground up with the help of its custom-tailored Frostbite engine. Players will man a team of renegade soldiers, on a mission that has them putting it all on the line in the name of gold and revenge. A cinematic single-player experience, rife with dark humor and trademark sandbox gameplay, is joined by an array of multiplayer modes, said to take “full advantage of the game's massively destructible environments.” Yes, please.

Bad Company makes its not-so-warm welcome in 2007, bunking with both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Feast those peepers on the first screen of the game for a taste of what’s in store. And hey, keeping tabs on us and the official Battlefield site couldn’t hurt either.
