Jesper Kyd is a god amongst men -- well, the kind of men that like to score the soundtracks for video games, mind you, which is already fairly high up the ladder of godliness if you're in the realm of a Yasunori Mitsuda or a Marty O'Donnell or a Harry Gregson-Williams. And Kyd is most certainly that. Often closely linked with Danish developers Io Interactive, he's helped aurally back Freedom Fighters and most famously all of the Hitman games.
Though he obviously built up a following thanks to the Hitman connection, Kyd's attachment to Io isn't exclusive. He's worked with Shiny, Epic, Bizarre Creations and Ubisoft on a handful of projects. It's that latter one that is the key here, as Ubisoft's biggest Holiday blockbuster, Assassin's Creed looms on the horizon, and The Big U has just sent over word that Kyd will be providing the soundtrack.
And now, we dance.
"We listened to many composers before finding the right person for Assassin's Creed. Jesper Kyd turned out to be the perfect match for the title because he is able to create epic historical pieces fused with both traditional medieval instruments and modern synth sounds,” explains AC producer Jade Raymond. "For Assassin's Creed we wanted the score to capture the gruesome atmosphere of medieval warfare but also be edgy and contemporary. Jesper not only achieved this balance but also underlined the changes in gameplay and pacing in a way that immerses the player even further into the Assassin's Creed experience.”
"I was inspired by the deep and engaging world of Assassin's Creed and working with the visionary team at Ubisoft Montreal was a fantastic experience,” gushed Kyd. "It was truly refreshing to be given so much creative freedom for such a high-profile blockbuster title and I believe we took it to the max.”
Now we just have to slip into a coma and wait until the game comes out. Or, perhaps more safely than taking a ball peen hammer to one's own skull in the hopes of a perfectly-timed nap, maybe Ubisoft will release the soundtrack on iTunes or something. Hmmmmmm, Ubisoft?
