Armored Core Landing Stateside in Spring 2007

It would appear the relationship forged between SEGA and From Software seems to be paying off. Chromehouds was a surprise hit (though some have complained about being what amounts to guinea pigs where the online play is concerned), and with From shifting focus on the fourth major entry into the Armored Core franchise to the PS3, it's looking like Sony fans will have a mech combat game of their own.

The catch? You'll have to wait until 2007 to get it here in the States.

"FromSoftware is a very talented team that specialize in developing mech-based combat games," echoed SEGA of America VP of Marketing Scott A. Steinberg. "Building on the success of Chromehounds, we believe that Armored Core 4 will deliver an action-packed experience that will not only cater to the diehard fans, but will attract new fans to the mech-based combat genre."

The 360 version is still coming, though it's on hold for now while From prepares for the PS3 launch in Japan. With the slightly staggered release, it sounds like both versions will hit at the same time just after we cross into 2007, which is good news for all next-gen gamers involved. Armored Core has always been a very specific type of mech-on-mech shooter, though Chromehounds seemed even more languid at times than the thundering, plodding pace of AC.

Official screens should be forthcoming in the next few hours/days/weeks, and we'll be sure to kick them up as soon as we get 'em. For now, take comfort in the fact that mech combat is just a few months away.

[Update]
See, told you we'd be on top of it. Just a few hours later, here are the first three screens.
