NFL 2K Lives!
Well, not with the NFL name, but Visual Concepts’ long-rumored football game is indeed coming – and soon.

The biggest casualty of this whole exclusive sports license buying frenzy that took place a few years back wasn’t baseball (2K Sports got that). It wasn’t college football (EA got that). It certainly wasn’t Arena Football (EA got that too). It was good ol’ regular NFL-licensed pigskin (again, EA got that), and it basically put an end to Madden’s only competition, the rapidly improving (and dirt cheap) NFL 2K series that had begun on the Dreamcast and, after dropping to $20 a pop, was starting to steadily chip away at Madden’s sales. EA wasn’t having any of that, and they shelled out huge money to get the exclusive and kill off any competition they had.
Some would say it’s worked against them, forcing the development team at EA Tiburon to get a little complacent, but without any other options out there, who’s to say. 2K Sports developer Visual Concepts, the folks behind the NFL 2K games (and nearly all of 2K Sports’ 2K series) have been toiling away for years at... something, but nobody really knew what it was. Were they biding their time until they could try their hand at another NFL game once the exclusive contract ran out? Were they opting for an NCAA-free college football game? The truth, it seems, is a little bit of everything.
“Football gamers have been awaiting the return of the 2K series,” proclaimed VC president Greg Thomas. “All-Pro Football 2K8 will deliver an authentic next generation gridiron experience and we are happy to give fans another choice in the football category.”
And that’s it. That’s all we know. Pretty crap build-up just to leave you with blue balls, eh? Well sorry, Sparky, it’s all we got too, and we just wanted to deliver the exact same sense of excitement and letdown that we got when we saw the news fall into our inboxes a few minutes ago. You can hate us now, but you’ll love us when we jump all over the first images or actual real hard info that gets released. Check back soon for that.
