If you're going to make a videogame and base it off a popular comic book franchise, you'd sure as hell had better have some of the original talent onboard. It's a rule, man, and violators have been severely beaten in the past (and you wonder why comic-based games have gotten significantly better as of late).

Activision is down with it for sure, having tapped into the fountain of fresh movie, comic book and musical talent for its upcoming Marvel-inspired title, X-Men: The Official Game. The game itself precedes the events of the forthcoming X-Men: The Last Stand film, with a storyline co-penned by Zak Penn (conveniently, the film's co-screenwriter to boot) and legendary comic book writer, Chris Claremont.

Aurally, the will feature a sprawling musical score courtesy of Womb Music and renowned composer Chance Thomas, whose credits include King Kong, Lord of the Rings and Unreal games. After all, dramatic music will be key if you plan saving the mutant-race in the roles of Wolverine, Nightcrawler, and Iceman.

X-Men: The Official Game has already nailed down a release date of Tuesday, May 16, 2006, so, uh, no confusion there! Stay tuned... or else.
