Not many games can claim to be the best-selling X-Men game of all time. In fact, if we've done our math right (and we always do), only two games can stake such a cla--- only one game can stake such a claim. We are so good at math it's scary.
Given that this is a story about X-Men Legends II finally shipping to stores, you'd think that we'd be talking about the first game, ironically titled X-Men Legends, but you'd be totally right and you absolutely deserve a cookie. There should be some on top of the fridge. G'head, you earned it. Mmmm... Cookie.
Since this is a Tuesday, and Tuesdays equal new games, it's not surprising (just a little coincidental) that the X-Men-only game happens to be shipping on the same day as EA's Marvel powered beat-em-up/fighting game. This means there are a lot of extremely happy (and possibly) sweaty comic book nerds dancing around their local game stores. Make sure you keep an eye out for them, two comic games in one day usually means hugs. Sweaty hugs.
"X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse is sure to please X-Men fans everywhere with an original and suspense-filled storyline that teams up the X-Men with the Brotherhood villains for the first time ever," wheezed Will Kassoy, vice president of global brand management at Activision. "The diversity gives players an unprecedented arsenal of super powers to employ as they battle an amazing array of enemies in exotic locales in single-player mode or online multiplayer modes with gamers around the world."
"Marvel couldn't be more pleased with this latest installment in the X-Men Legends franchise," squeaked Ames Kirshen, VP of Interactive at Marvel. "With a truly epic X-Men story, a ton of new playable characters, larger gameplay environments, increased customization features and most importantly the addition of online play, this truly is the deepest X-Men game ever."
Those glowing quotes should be all you really need to know, because they're the company line and the company knows what's best for you, but we risk life and limb by offering up our own humble observations in a hands-on preview of the game. Peep that if you want a little first-hand detailing of what's new, and keep checking back in the coming days as we emerge from our ReviewCaveâ„¢ to deliver a verdict on the final product.
