E3: Sega Sports To Collide With PS2
Sega plans to bring their NFL and NBA series to the PlayStation 2 later this year, and they have even more surprises in store.

Sega has decided to bring two of their biggest sports offerings, NFL 2K2 and NBA 2K2 onto the PlayStation 2 by Fall of 2001. Sega of America has also confirmed that the United Game Artists musical shooter, K-Project will also be heading over to the PS2 platform.
It seems that Electronic Arts may have some big competition this year with Sega bringing more Sega Sports titles to the PS2 in the future. Visual Concepts, the same developers who headed NFL 2K and 2K1 for the Dreamcast will be sitting in the Developer's Chair for both the NFL and NBA offerings for the PS2.
Because Sony will be releasing their network adapter very late in the year, it remains unclear whether NFL 2K2 and NBA 2K2 will feature online support. Ultimately, it was online support that helped the NFL 2K1 and NBA 2K1 for the Dreamcast do so well. If Sony can't get strong online support for the PS2 by the years end, both NFL and NBA 2K2 may lack an online feature. Sega remains confident however, that the 2K3 editions of the two games will include the online playability features.
Sega's other sports franchises, such as baseball, tennis and hockey all remain unconfirmed for the PS2 at this time. If Sega sticks to their strategy, "all sports, all platforms", then we can expect to see these games as well as many more to arrive onto the PS2 in the coming years.
As of right now, Sega has now officially announced four North American games for the PlayStation 2, including NFL 2K2, NBA 2K2, Virtua Fighter 4 and Space Channel 5. K-Project will only be released in Japan for now, until a North American date is secured.
