Video Games Live Rocks Hollywood

Looks like the Hollywood Bowl is gonna see a little more game music.

Now this is the kind of news we like to see. This time five months ago, it was looking increasingly like Video Games Live wouldn't make it past its first tour. Though that 25-stop tour was killed, then resumed with a truncated West Coast version that will play its final show in San Jose during the Game Developers Conference, the first 2006 tour date has been confirmed, and it's going back to where it all began.

It makes sense; the Hollywood Bowl was the site of the most exposure, and the biggest hoopla when things first kicked off, so in a way the tour is playing off its strengths. This isn't just a rehash of last year's show, though, the updated program will still feature the same blend of video game tunes set to a rock-style laser show and stage performances, but the music and arrangements will be mixed up a bit to keep things fresh.

What kind of tunes? VGL promises a mix of songs from franchises like Kingdom Hearts, Warcraft, Metal Gear Solid, Mario, Sonic, Zelda, Halo, Tomb Raider, Tron (YES!), Final Fantasy, Castlevania, Myst, Medal of Honor, Advent Rising, God of War, Ghost Recon, Headhunter, Beyond Good & Evil, Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six and EverQuest® II, plus a Classic Arcade Medley that mashes up Pong, Donkey Kong, Dragon's Lair, Tetris, Frogger, Gauntlet, Space Invaders, Outrun and more for a 20-plus game smorgasbord.

The show will start at 8PM on September 21st, but early attendees (like, say, two hours early) can participate in a meet and greet with the composers in full on geek-out mode. In fact, you can geek out a little earlier if you'll be down in the LA area this weekend attending Wizard World at the Staples Center, as VGL will have a booth at the show. This ties in rather nicely to the performance they'll be putting on at Wizard World Chicago too.

Hit up Ticketmaster for tickets to the Hollywood Bowl show, and we'll see you there!
