As a practice, puzzle games don't normally make the jump to a full-fledged adventure game. But then, as a practice, most puzzles games aren't as primed for such a transition as Super Monkey Ball. Cute monkeys trapped in the little rolling balls normally reserved for hamsters and their ilk are just about pre-packaged for a quirky little adventure through the same checkerboard world hinted about as you screamed about courses pockmarked with pitfalls and gravity-based challenged.

So, then, don't have a coronary when we tell you that Super Monkey Ball Adventure has finally shipped to stores, meaning you'll be able to explore the little critters' world at your leisure starting tomorrow (possibly today if you're really lucky). Created by Traveller's Tales, who have made adventure games their bread and butter over the years, the game is something of a love story. With monkeys.

See, Princess DeeDee and Prince Abe-abe have got the hots for each other. Big time. But like most star-crossed lovers, they come from different worlds, and monkey love between rival kingdoms is a strict no-no. Luckily, AiAi, the star of the SMB games, is something of a helpful sort, and along with the requisite cast of equally cute newcomers, he's out to dispel any ill will across all five kingdoms in their world. He'll do this by.... well, probably rolling around a lot, but that's just how they get down in Super Monkey Ball land.

"Super Monkey Ball is one of SEGA's most popular and successful franchises," glowed Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing at SEGA of America. "Super Monkey Ball Adventure introduces gamers to four new islands of AiAi's home world for an exciting gameplay experience that's all-new to the series while incorporating the puzzle levels and mini-games that have defined the franchise and made it popular."

And Scott Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing at SEGA of America, would know. He's... the Vice... Presid--well, you get the idea. Cute aminals in little translucent balls rolling around everywhere? Yeah, we can dig it. After all, it's monkeys, man, monkeys. We wouldn't be here if it weren't for them. Of course, we wouldn't be cleaning poo off the office walls a couple times a month if it weren't for them either, but... y'know, semantics. We'll have a review of the digital monkeys in a few days. Check back then!
