Cole Claims Comic-Con Crown
For the Alpha 3 tourney, anyway.

Last month, we told you about Capcom's plans for the San Diego Comic-Con. They included showcasing a number of upcoming titles -- including some stuff that wasn't even playable at E3 last May -- plus displays of a handful of game-related stuff like action figures and art books, all of which works rather well in a comics convention environment. But there was one other thing that likely stirred up the masses more than most: a tournament.
Capcom, it would seem, hasn't forgotten about their bread and butter series, and, seeing an opportunity to pimp their products as much as reward players, organized three separate tourneys. The Big Three's major systems all got some love, with competitions on Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony's systems. The Xbox 360 had an early showcase for Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting where the winner, one Michael Watson of Monterey Park, CA, won a 360 all his own. Over at the Nintendo camp, brothers Keaton and Gavin Hendershot from Klein, TX both went home with matching DS Lites for winning the Mega Man Battle Network 6 competition.
This is a PlayStation site, though, and we'd be remiss if we didn't mention Sony's six-plus year-old black box. The PlayStation 2 was host to one of the single best arcade compilations in the history of Sony consoles with Street Fighter Alpha Anthology, and the tournament set up at Comic-Con called out the big guns for an Alpha 3 brawl with eventual winner, Moorpark, CA resident Jason Cole, walked away with a $250 Best Buy gift card. Not a bad take home for just showing up and playing some games.
Now if we could just find a way to pocket cash for playing games... Hmmm...
