And the Award for Most Ironic Release Date Goes To...

Yep, State of Emergency 2 on Valentine's Day. And no, we don't understand what irony means.

It's poetic, really. To think that a game about prison breaks, mass destruction, gang recruitment, grand-scale looting and rioting and lots and lots of heavy weapons fire in response to an oppressive faceless corporation would come out on February 14th, it's just fitting. No, seriously, think about it: Cupid totally shoots people. With a bow and arrow. And they fall in love. Here, people are getting show en masse and... well, just falling, we guess.

Okay, so we're trying too hard here. In fact, we probably tried too hard when we get buck wild and wrote a big ass, exhaustive preview of the first couple levels of State of Emergency 2. No matter, though, the sequel to the first post-GTA3 release that had everyone going "Yeah! This is aweso--awful!" is finally here, like it or not.

"We are pleased to deliver State of Emergency 2 and convinced that this enhanced version will prove to be a popular franchise," offered a reserved Mark Greenshields, CEOfficer of DC Studios, the sequel's developer. "We are also very confident that the game's sequel will surpass its prequel because State of Emergency 2 introduces many new and exciting game-play elements like gang control and interrogation as well as new driving and flying vehicles."

If you read between the lines, you can almost hear the implied, "no, seriously, this game will be better than that one that Viz made, we just bought all their assets when they tanked and made this one for you." Or maybe that's just us, because to be honest, we rather enjoyed all the shooting and the driving of the vehicles and the far, far better graphics. Hell, there's even a storyline. All of this surprising optimism is contained in that thar preview we mentioned a while back.

Is it obvious that we're trying to get you to read more stuff on the site yet? Because we totally are, but hey, at least we aren't quite roping you into trying to read up on the PSP version of the game that will hit sometime this Spring. But you should probably click on that link anyway.
