Sony Computer Entertainment America announced today the release of SOCOM II: U.S. Navy SEALs, the follow-up to its acclaimed predecessor from last year (which is now a "Greatest Hits" title).

"In addition to launching a global franchise, SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs demonstrates the demand and driving force behind online gaming," said Ami Blaire, director, product marketing, Sony Computer Entertainment America. SOCOM II gives players the role of an elite SEAL commander who must work with allies in order to eliminate worldwide threats to America. Featuring over 20 different online missions (as well as 10 updated), five different mission types, utilization of the PlayStation 2 USB Headset (also out today) or SOCOM headset, as well as the Network Adapter for expansive online gameplay, SOCOM II: U.S. Navy SEALs is the online sequel console gamers have been waiting for.
