Sniper Elite Sighted on Shelves
Get it? Sighted? Cause sniper rifles have scopes or... wait for it... sights! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh man...

There are few things as cool as the World War II sniper. Think about it, he's the guy that usually says the least but has all the best lines in the movies. Why? Because the dude just sits there and slowly picks off dirty Nazi scum one by one while they all run around with a giant "WTF, mann?" expression on their faces. How is that not the perfect idea for a game?
Clearly, someone at UK-based developer Rebellion (of Alien vs. Predator fame) asked this question aloud while the rest of the office was at lunch as well. Once they stopped feeling dumb, they probably pitched it to the rest of the team, got a bunch of high-fives (or whatever the Brit equivalent of one is - likely something involving excess pinky use), and went to work.
The result is Sniper Elite, a game solely dedicated to putting you in the shoes of a lone World War II sniper in the final days of the Big One. Deployed behind enemy lines with only your wits and a keen knowledge of how heart rate, breathing, wind speed and direction, posture and gravity play a role in your shots, you'll have to keep the Russian army from acquiring German atomic research.
"Sniper Elite harnesses the intensity of World War II Berlin by positioning players in the midst of an international struggle for German nuclear intelligence," explains Jeff Lujan, business director at Namco Hometek, SE's publisher. "The advanced sniping mechanics and sophisticated AI add to the realism of the game, making players feel the chaos and danger of fighting behind enemy lines."
We like chaos. We like danger. We like the idea of eating both for breakfast with a handful of bullets and washed down with an ice cold glass of courage. We're also fond of pretending abstract concepts can be used as some form of nourishment. Because we're tough, man, just like snipers. You can be too, with a simple visit to your nearest game store, because Sniper Elite will totally be there.
