NIS America Rolls Out an Anime Two-Fer

The house that Prinnies built is taking a stab at publishing some animated flicks from their native soil.

The folks at NIS America have had a tough go of it as of late. Apparently because of some long-standing deals, they've been saddled with more crappy games than good ones, and the result has been some rather difficult financial quarters. We love 'em, though, and they're scrappers if nothing else, so we're hoping things turn around fairly soon.

One of the ways the company is making inroads toward satisfying the very audience that put 'em on the map is by taking an interesting direction with their publishing efforts. No, this isn't yet another Idea Factory or Hit Maker (note the space in that name, please) session of pain, but rather something decidedly less about games and more about... well, what we can only assume are some of the other interests NISA fans might have, namely anime.

While the first of the two releases, Toradora!, might be something familiar only to those that follow Japanese animation, the second, PERSONA -trinity soul-, is definitely culled from gaming, taking the basic story of Atlus' creepily awesome/addictive role-playing games and giving it a new spin that we'll be honest in that we're definitely curious about. Because we are so very, very lazy (and because most of us know next to nothing about anime outside of the bigger mainstream stuff), we're going to give you the descriptions straight from NISA themselves:

[About Toradora!]

Because of his scary looking appearance, Ryuji lives an unfortunate life. On the first day of his junior year of high school he meets a strange girl. The girl he meets, Taiga, is known as the Palmtop Tiger. Despite being a pretty little girl, she is extremely short tempered and nobody can stop her when she starts throwing fists. However, Ryuji learns something about Taiga that no one else knows...The dragon and tiger join forces to bring you a mega love comedy!

[About PERSONA –trinity soul-]

The story is based in Anayagi City, which faces the Sea of Japan. It's a futuristic city that survived the outbreak of "Mass Apathy Syndrome" ten years ago. Shin Kanzato (17) and his brother Jun (14) meet their eldest brother Ryo (28), who is a young Chief Officer at Ayanagi City's police station, for the first time in ten years. Meanwhile, the city is facing a string of mysterious incidents. Ship crew members disappear from their underwater submarine. The Apathy Syndrome resurfaces, much like ten years ago. The Reverse case, a series of student murders, intensifies. Ryo investigates an organization involved in all of the above incidents. One of these incidents results in the awakening of Shin's Persona. The wheel of fate begins to turn for this family of brothers.

Okay, so a "mega love comedy" might not be quite what we're looking for right now, but a new Persona story? Apathy Syndrome? Murders? Yep, sign us up; we're totally down for seeing how a MegaTen game would play out minus all the dating and time management and dungeon crawling. Both anime series can be picked up at stores that carry that kind of goodness, or you can just order 'em directly from NISA right here. If we manage to get our hands on copies of either, we'll be sure to let you know what we thought.
