[Gone Gold] March 13th, 2008

Samurais are taking over the world!

For the uninitiated, a game going gold means it's effectively done. The final version of the code has been pressed to a master disc (back in the day it was actually gold colored, hence the name) and has been sent off to be mass produced (pending a final screening, test and approvals process from the big three, mind you). In most cases, this means the game will be hitting stores in a matter of weeks, so to keep you abreast of when things are hitting, we'll plug it in here, possibly throwing in a quote or two if a publisher is feeling especially verbose.

And now, for this week's fun:

[PlayStation 2]

[Samurai Warriors 2: XTREME Legends]
How extreme is extreme? This “xtreme,” apparently. KOEI, makers of all things involving samurai, or ninjas, or samurai ninjas, or ninjas being samurai, have announced that Samurai Warriors 2 Xtreme Legends has gone gold and includes a ton of new features.

Some of the new features included are six new playable characters, including Katsuie Shibata, Toshiie Maeda, and Gracia, a new Mercenary mode where players will get the chance to hire other samurai to handle the small stuff, and a Remix mode, where players can use characters from the original Samurai Warriors 2 in the new Xtreme Legends version. They can also play the original game with all of the XL characters. Remix mode also raises the maximum level from 50 to 70, adds new charge attacks, and a 5th weapon level to each of the original characters.

If you need something “xtreme” with your samurai, you can snatch this up on March 18th. And, really, who doesn't need something just a little bit extreme with their samurai?
