[Gone Gold] March 7th, 2008

Naruto is Ninjaing it Up while Dark Sector broods in the corner

For the uninitiated, a game going gold means it's effectively done. The final version of the code has been pressed to a master disc (back in the day it was actually gold colored, hence the name) and has been sent off to be mass produced (pending a final screening, test and approvals process from the big three, mind you). In most cases, this means the game will be hitting stores in a matter of weeks, so to keep you abreast of when things are hitting, we'll plug it in here, possibly throwing in a quote or two if a publisher is feeling especially verbose.

And now, for this week's fun:

[PlayStation 2]

[Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 3]
As if Naruto needs an introduction. He's got a fanbase so large that it could fit inside a country the size of China and still need parts of Korea for the overflow. To keep the Naruto money machine going, Namco Bandai Games America is bringing Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 3 to the US. In fact, it's gone gold. Like many of the Naruto games before it, Ultimate Ninja 3 is a fighter with some new features and customization options. 20 stages fill the game with over 40 of Naruto's most popular characters.

Ultimate Ninja 3 also includes an original story, as players explore the Hidden Leaf Village and participate in battle royale styled matches spanning 55 scenarios. Unlockable items such as movies, music, and cards are hidden in the crevices of the game, offering enough replay value to keep even the most jaded Naruto fan happy.

The game is set to release on March 25th for the MSRP of $39.99. It's been rated “T” by the ESRB but I'm of the mind that it should be rated “OMGZWTFBBQSAUCE” because of the sheer amount of Naruto games on the market today. But that's just me.

[Dark Sector]

Dark Sector fans, your cries have been answered. On March 25th, you will finally get your chance to live out your darkest superhero fantasties.

Dark Sector, developed by Digital Extremes and D3Publisher of America, Inc., follows Hayden Tenno, a special ops agent who is infected by a virus that alters the very make-up of his body. He's faced with two options at that point: either learn how to control his abilities or die.

Besides being gorgeous, Digital Extremes is hoping there's enough new car smell in this title to entertain gamers for months to come.

“Dark Sector fans have been waiting for this moment and we’re pleased to say that after months of tweaking and polishing, the game is ready to entertain and wow gamers,” said Peter Andrew, vice president of product development, D3PA. “Digital Extremes has poured their heart and soul into this game and it shows through compelling gameplay and absolutely stunning graphics.”

Let's hope so. We'll put it to the test on March 25th.
