While it may not seem like it gets the focus, the Drift Mode in both of EA's Need for Speed Underground games is actually one of the most fun entries the series has seen added since it kicked off a couple decades back. The mix of controlled skids and gamble of using speed and proximity to the walls is an addictive one indeed.

Not surprisingly, the marketing wing of the publishing giant saw opportunity in the upcoming Formula Drift Championship revving up this weekend in Houston Texas. The Need for Speed Most Wanted Blacklist Regional Tournament is the first stop on EA's country-crossing search for some serious racing competitors, with the winner locking in a spot at the Finals where the Grand Prize will be a trip to the Most Wanted launch event in November.

Like the Madden Challenge, EA teamed up with G4 to broadcast highlights from the tourney, and the results will be shown during the game-themed network's Formula D show on July 10th at 7:30PM Eastern/10:30PM Pacific.

To get yourself a shot at a nearby regional championship (that is, if you can't make it down to the June 11th one in Houston), you'll have to head to the game's official site and sign up there. Future championships will mirror Formula Drift events all over the country. They include:

Reliant Center, Houston, TX
June 11

Infineon Raceway - Sonoma, CA
July 9

Soldier Field - Chicago, IL
August 6

Irwindale Speedway - Irwindale, CA
August 27

If the list looks a little short, it's because the final two spots for the event haven't been decided upon yet (though we're guessing the South and the East Coast need some luv). The last pair of venues will be announced on the NFS official site at the link above. Good luck!
