Basketball and hip-hop have become so intrinsically linked that it's a wonder they haven't crossed over both ways. Sure, some basketball stars fancy themselves a bit of a rapper, and earning a couple million a year tends to make one go a little crazy when they decide to branch out (it's cool, MJ, we forgive you).

NBA LIVE 06 isn't going to be breaking with tradition anytime soon. In addition to in-game beats crafted by Da Riffs (EA was quick to point out that Cool n Dre and Just Blaze did the same thing for the 05 and 04 editions, respectively), the soundtrack will feature 16 hip-hop tracks, including four exclusive to the game.

The listing isn't short on recognizable talent; N.O.R.E., Jurassic Five, Linkin Park frontman Mike Shinoda's new band Fort Minor and even Busta Rhymes is featured in a Q-Tip track. The full listing is as follows (exclusive songs are marked with an asterisk):

"With its rock, indie and latin influences, the music in NBA LIVE 06 is an unparalleled collection of songs that demonstrate the new sound of hip-hop," riffed Steve Schnur, EA's Worldwide Executive of Music and Music Marketing.

And hey, now you know. You'll be able to hear those very tunes with your own two ears next month.
