In a year where only one series bold enough to carry the MLB brand (thanks to a company bold enough to buy its exclusive rights) will be heading to retail, baseball fans are no doubt itching for a fix of the big leagues. The wait is almost over, we promise, and to prove, 2K Sports gave word today of Major League Baseball 2K6 hitting gold.

This year's features carry enough "TMs" to make your head spin, what with the likes of a new Swing Stick swinging mechanic, Payoff Pitching, AI-driven Inside Edge and Pure Motion Physics. Players can compete in the newly-added World Baseball Classic Mode, put saucy new catcher mechanics to the test and even enjoy hearing Jon Miller and Joe Morgan bark out all of the on-field happenings. Wait, one more feature: a variegated soundtrack including the presumably sweet sounds of Stephen Malkmus, Pavement, Belle & Sebastian, Mogwai and Guided By Voices.

Get ready to play ball on April 11. We'll report back once the game actually streets and continue keeping tabs on the not-to-be-forgotten PSP version.
