ESPN Goes Inside Madden

Ew, that just sounds a little dirty. No, wait, really dirty.

The sultry love affair between EA Sports and ESPN has been brewing for some time now, but only recently did EA open it's more innermost sanctum and allow five hardcore Madden NFL players in... plus an ESPN camera crew... and a bunch of other guys too. The blowout look at both the newest Madden game and the folks down in Florida making it at EA Tiburon will air as a gutsy hour-long Pay-Per-View event.

Dubbed "Inside Madden NFL 07," the show is produced by ESPN Original Entertainment and features 2005 and 2002 Madden Challenge winners Jarvis Thomas and Dwayne "D-Train" Harrison, 2005 Madden Challenge Washington DC regional champ Justin Chow, former Madden Nation competitor Rod "Reality" Winn and MaddenNation.com co-owner Will Kinsler all taking a crack at Madden 07 and touring EA Tiburon.

Oho, but that's not all. It wouldn't be much of an ESPN look at things if there weren't some pro athletes introduced, so to satisfy the Recommended Daily Allowance of Dudes in Uniform (or RDADU), The Rams' Marshall Faulk, Titans' Eddie George, Falcons' Warrick Dunn and Vikings' Steve Hutchinson will all make appearances, playing through the game and checking out they stack up in the digital world to their real-life opinions of themselves.

The special will air next month (August 4th if you want the particulars) at 8PM Eastern. For those without cable, you can buy the special directly from ESPN for $20 at their web site. If you do have cable, you can catch Madden Nation re-runs from 2-6PM Eastern in preparation for the PPV event. And just so you don't feel left out, Madden NFL 07 hits at the end of next month, allowing you to delve into all the stuff the guys on the TV show will have seen just a few weeks later.
