...and the curse takes yet another one.

In case you missed it, EA now owns the exclusive rights to every game featuring a pointy-tipped, oddly-shaped balls into infinity. Or, uh, something like that. They do have the exclusive on the NFL now, so now that Madden's the only name in town, what's a publisher sitting atop a massive pile of cash and millions of people chomping at the bit to get a game with marginal improvements and changes every year to do?

You may want to sit down for this: they're going to make Madden NFL 06. I know, shut up, right? But it's true. This year's cover athlete and the one we'll probably all be reading about after he snaps both legs and a couple ribs in half mysteriously (damn you, Madden Curse!) is none other than Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb.

"This is one of the top honors in the NFL - you have truly made it when you are on the cover of Madden NFL Football," said McNabb. "With the attention and changes they have made to the passing and the focus on the quarterback this year, it was worth the wait to be the cover guy and part of the EA Sports team."

Those improvements include the QB Vision and QB Precision Placement features that shift the focus of the series back on the passing game, highlighting the QB's line of sight visually and allowing for pass plays and receptions based around that vision cone. All this attention on the quarterback serves McNabb well, what with his 104.7 passing score (second highest in the NFC, in case you were wondering), and record-setting 31 passes and only eight interceptions (a first for the NFL in a better than 30/less than 10 breakdown).

We joke about the Madden Curse, which seems to leave past cover athletes injured or otherwise taken out on an awfully common scale, but who knows if it'll happen with McNabb. Just keep an eye out if he's on your fantasy team, is all we're sayin'.
