"For generations, a settlement of peaceful cats has lived on the mythical island of Yenching, alongside many other animals. The harmony is disrupted when Shun, the power hungry king of the mighty gorillas, sends his army and their new rat allies to take over and enslave everyone in the land.

"Kay, a martial arts apprentice who diligently studies with his wise master at the town's dojo, must put his training to the test and face the adventure of a lifetime as he travels across the island to save his beloved village. Though Kay is a young cat, he is brave beyond his years and possesses great fighting skills. Armed with his trusty sword and fierce determination, he sets forth on a dangerous mission to save all cat-kind."

That's not the exceptionally long intro to some new movie, it's more or less all you need to know about Legend of Kay, Neon Studios' chop-heavy action game that has finally gotten the green light for release. Capcom will be publishing the game here in the States, and JoWood is handling distribution in Europe, which is probably part of the reason why you haven't heard too much about the game.

From what Capcom tells us and then we blatantly cut and paste while pretending we're so clever by telling you about it, the game should be an interesting mix of close-quarters combat and weapons-based mechanics. Neon, the game's developer, built in 40+ moves for Kay to unleash on more than 20 types of enemies.

The mix of claws and swords (and, uh, hammers) actually sounds rather intriguing and we'll no doubt be neck deep in the cutsey corpses of dead rodents in a matter of days. We'll report back as soon as we've finished every last one off.
