E3: Square Teams Up With Disney To Create A Kingdom
Square has teamed up with Disney Interactive to deliver a new PlayStation 2 RPG title, Kingdom Hearts.

Square officially confirmed their teaming up with Disney today in regards to a new PlayStation 2 title. Kingdom Hearts, a three-dimensional RPG title, will feature both new and familiar Disney characters in a world created by both Square and Disney.
The game's storyline will follow a young boy named Sora, who decides to head out on an adventure with characters such as Donald Duck and Goofy. Along the way, Sora must rescue his friends, Riku and Kairi. Gamers can expect to do battle with classic Disney villains, as well as new characters.
The title is expected to be both a dark, but magical adventure featuring a total of nine different worlds. Each world is based upon a theme from a Disney movie, such as Aladdin, Tarzan, Pinocchio and The Little Mermaid. Jan Smith, President of Disney Interactive stated the following today:
[blockquote]"Kingdom Hearts is a unique undertaking and opportunity for Disney Interactive on so many levels: we're working in alliance with one of the world's leading interactive entertainment companies; we're launching new characters for The Walt Disney Co.; and we're creating breakthrough creative content on an advanced platform that allows us to push the boundaries of 3D animation and design, and tell a new story with unprecedented fusion of Disney characters and movie worlds."[/blockquote]Kingdom Hearts will be arriving in Japan in 2001, with a 2002 release in North America.
