Where there's an animated feature film in the works these days, there's a licensed game. Today, it comes in the form of Ice Age 2: The Meltdown, based on the 20th Century Fox of the same name, and conveniently enough, shipping to stores as we speak.

"We are excited to be part of this theatrical release and support it with exciting games for console, handheld and PC," grinned Cindy Cook, Chief Strategy and Marketing Officer, VU Games. "Fans of the films will be excited to share in the adventures of Manny, Diego, Sid and Scrat knowing that they are getting an authentic extension of 20th Century Fox's hit family films."

Fans of the films will also be happy to hear that a star-studded cast of Ray Romano (Manny the Mammoth), Denis Leary (Sid the Sloth) and John Leguizamo (Diego the Sabre-Toothed Tiger) have offered their talents to the game, and with Jay Leno voicing Fast Tony. This assorted crew finds itself in danger after realizing their "melting paradise" of water parks, geysers and tar pits turns out to be an inevitable end to the Ice Age that's about to flood their once-homey valley. The trio will have to journey across the treacherous landscape for salvation , while reuniting with an old friend, Scrat the sabre-toothed squirrel.

"This wonderful video game is the perfect compliment to the film and a great way for fans to extend their experience with the story and the wonderfully endearing characters of Ice Age 2 The Meltdown," assures Elie Dekel, Executive Vice President, Fox Licensing & Merchandising.

Ice Age 2: The Meltdown has made its escape to retail, bringing with it a $39.99 price tag. Let's hope the movie's decent, eh?
