Guitar Hero Wants YOU
If you have a band and song, that is.
Published: April 27, 2006
It's doubtful the bands that won their way into slots on the original Guitar Hero knew they would be exposed to so many people. Bands like Graveyard BBQ, Shaimus and The Slip suddenly had thousands of fans created just from having great songs in a game that until its release was thought to be little more than a gimmick (and, sadly, those that haven't played it yet for fear of embarrassing themselves probably still think that way).
To say Guitar Hero II is hotly anticipated would be like saying the TPS staff are "light drinkers" -- just about everyone who's played the first game is already dying to play more songs. And they're getting it soon enough, with songs by the fistful (though we'll have to wait a week and a half or so to find out what some of them are), and a brand new chance for unknown bands to be come very, very well known -- at least in video game nerd circles.
"Be a Guitar Hero" II rules are very simple, and actually point towards the direction that Guitar Hero II is going musically. All the songs submitted have to make it by the 11:59PM PST cutoff time on June 30th (yes, of this year), and must be categorized as "hard rock" or "heavy metal" (hey, if Freezepop can do it, so can you). In keeping with the game's idea of featuring a lead, bass and rhythm guitar, the lead guitar must be at the forefront.
Other than that, you're free to whip up and submit any song you'd like in MP3 format through the contest's official web site. Who knows next year you might be as cool as Graveyard BBQ and rock out in [s]the hall of the damned[/s] Kentia Hall -- unless of course RedOctane rakes in enough cash from GHII to move on up to one of the bigger halls.
What are you waiting for, man, we could be talking about your band with the same love and reverence in naught but six months. Git on over there and submit your song. We said git!
