Grand Theft Auto III created a cultural phenomenon. Actors in Hollywood were talking about the game with the kind of reverence that a motion picture director could only dream of, and it was being happily digested for all its delicious sandbox moments by millions of people. You couldn't speak of a game months after GTAIII came out without it eventually getting brought up, and rightly so; it was an incredible experience.

When it was announced that a GTA game would be coming to the PSP, most instantly assumed that replicating the go-anywhere, do-anything nature of the games since GTAIII would be lost, regressing the gameplay back to the top-down days of the first two games. But they were wrong. Liberty City Stories was awesome, importing the best parts of the GTA series' technical advancements on the PS2 since GTAIII hit and bringing them all into a portable package.

And we ate up every second of it. We reveled in a familiar-yet-different version of Liberty City, basked in the warm glow of the PSP screen spitting out a fully streamed world that offered the same do-anything possibilities that GTAIII did. And it offered more. Custom soundtrack support was added. Local multiplayer was added, and through it all, Liberty City remained the star.

There was just one problem: you had to own a PSP, which cost more than a brand new PlayStation 2 and a copy of all three games (if you shelled out for the GTA Double Pack). Luckily, Rockstar wasn't about to short change anyone (or miss a chance to rank in more of that sweet, sweet GTA lucre), and thus a PS2 port of LCS was born.

And now it's out.

For a mere $20, you can experience Liberty City again on your TV, minus the multiplayer and custom soundtracks. Though we'll report back soon on whether or not that's a major issue in a day or two, the price is certainly attractive. So, if you're like us, and left your heart in Liberty City, at least now you can go back.
