Calculatory almost to a fault, The Thinker enjoys something that actually flexes the brain as much as the fingers. Puzzle games, adventures with deeper stories than your typical action game, but not quite the overhead that comes with a full-blown RPG (that's the Level 52 Dork's territory).

The Thinker may be the person who had the smoothest transition from PC to consoles, but with the adventure genre becoming a dying art, it's taken a couple of major releases this year to rekindle the fires of interest. We've included those, along with perhaps the most emotionally important game released on the PlayStation 2.

Shadow of the Colossus
Sony's famed ICO team did the impossible and made a game that was unrelated (officially, anyway) to their first game, and yet retained the same sense of wonder and awe with sprawling vistas and living puzzles you have to slay to bring back you lost love. It's at times visceral, tender and somber, but it's always an experience you cannot miss.

"For all the minor problems with the camera, some of the less exhilarating boss fights and the initial adjustment period that comes with learning the trademark slightly delayed controls, the whole of Shadow's experience is so thought-provoking, so intensely mature in its approach, that there isn't a single being on the face of this planet that shouldn't experience it."
