Aksys' Eagle Eye
The newly-formed publisher is tackling Hot Shots territory.

One of the markets that the PlayStation consoles have managed to capture in a wholly unique way is that of the golf game. Since the original PSX was released, Camelot Software and later Clap Hanz managed to craft a golf game that was every bit as true as the golf sims in Hot Shots Golf, but did it with an unassuming and welcoming image of a bunch of super-deformed characters hitting the links.
Aksys Games, formed by former Atlus USA Project and BizDev Manager Akibo Shieh, certainly sees the potential in going after this market, and they've decided to prep their first PlayStation 2 effort to capture a slice of the golf-for-everyone pie with something called Eagle Eye Golf, developed by Telenet Japan, who count among their development staff the Tales team from Namco's Tales series.
"Eagle Eye Golf is definitely a golf game for the masses, with its fast and intuitive gameplay," beamed Aksys President Akibo Shieh. "From its wide variety of modes, unlockable items and characters
as well as its robust course editor, Eagle Eye Golf will have you playing for hours on end."
That's right, a course editor, allowing you to sculpt greens and plunk down trees wherever you please. Though we still know little about the overall game, it will include the usual single- and multiplayer bits for stuff like stroke play, team tourneys, match play and so on, but the real draw in the single-player game will be the customization and almost RPG-like element of some 70+ items that can be equipped and become more powerful as you use them.
The game seems to straddle the line between Hot Shots and Tiger Woods, taking the general feel of a mish-mash of caricatures but preserving the Tiger-style analog stick swing system rather than Hot Shots' three-tap system. Six single-player modes and seven multiplayer ones should add a decent amount of heft to things, but we're most interested in seeing how the RPG-lite elements coupled with the overall look and feel mesh. When we know more, we'll be sure to let you know.
