Koei and Omega Force certainly have a thing for milking the most out of their tactical action titles. The latest full-blown game of its kind, Dynasty Warriors 5, already has an Xtreme Legends expansion pack to its name, but that's not to stop the release of yet a second add-on, in the form of Dynasty Warriors 5 Empires. The title joins two other Koei titles - Warship Gunner 2 and the portable Samurai Warriors: State of War - for what looks to be a strategic month of March.


"Dynasty Warriors fans recognize the power of rich and engaging gameplay that challenges their full-range of action and strategy skills," assumes Amos Ip, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing for KOEI Corporation. "The combat and military simulation game elements which make up Dynasty Warriors 5 Empires are cleanly woven together into a fabric that most precisely embodies the finest attributes of the Dynasty Warriors series of games."

But while Amos is busy knitting sweaters, DW5 fans will be out trying to seize the 25 regions of Ancient China with the force of kingdom's army. Empires is all about control, allowing for either officer-specific or general commands with on the battlefield. At the player's whim, armies can go on the attack, take defense, lead an ambush of officers, recruit captives, or even expel officers from the kingdom if need be. Insubordinate sons of...

To get tactical, DW5 Empires introduces 25 new policies, consisting of Government, Product Development, Diplomacy and Battle Tactics, to bring the total to 75. As if replay initiative were ever in question, four unlockable scenarios and a wealth of items, co-op play in both the "Empire" and "Free" modes and control of over 200 officers intend to have players coming back for more. After all, isn't that the point of an expansion pack?

Dynasty Warriors 5 Empires begins its rise to retail on March 28 at a currently unannounced price point. See? Now you totally have to check back for an update on that.
