Though you wouldn't know it by the sales of BMX XXX, developer Z-Axis isn't exactly hurting for cash these days. After their betrothed, Acclaim, up and bit the dust, Z-Axis was left with a development team sans publisher and a series that did what few thought was possible; it beat the snot out of Activision's let's-make-a-Tony-Hawk-for-every-extreme-sport effort in Mat Hoffman (not that the latter was a bad game, but it was no Dave Mirra.

So what's a megapublisher like Activision to do? They snapped the young bucks up, of course, adding Z-Axis to the fold while letting them languish in the boring confines of Hayward, CA. Of course, being a development wing of Activision has its perks, and with the studio already hard at work on new projects, the time for expansion is at hand.

The move to a new 23,000 sq. ft. office wasn't a long trek; Z-Axis simply packed up and moved the whole operation less than 15 miles across the Bay Bridge to Foster City, home to Sony Computer Entertainment America, for those keeping track. The larger space will be used to accommodate the growing staff roster, which will jump from the current 90 to 120.

"We are very excited to move our studio to Bayside Towers and expect that the new facility will enable us to accommodate all of our growth needs," opined Z-Axis VP and General Manager Craig Alexander. "We currently have two high-profile games in development based on popular comic book characters and the additional space will allow us expand both of our teams, as well as to ramp up for pre-production on some exciting new projects."

It's a safe bet that we'll hear a little more about those projects as we get closer to E3. Keep your eyes peeled.
