Since EA's Medal of Honor series first started the whole "realism counts" approach to creating a historical first-person shooter, accuracy and particularly recreating key situations or introducing the real-life men and women that served in history's greatest conflicts have taken the fore. No longer is it good enough just to lock in the right sounds and general areas of conflict, now it takes documentary-level precision in delivering the goods.

To this end, Activision may have a leg up with their newest Call of Duty title, Big Red One. Like Finest Hour the previous (and first) CoD title to hit consoles, the development team is focusing on particular units - specifically The Big Red One, America's most highly-decorated fighting unit. The difference here is how the historical facts are being presented.

"We are pleased to partner with the Military Channel for our Call of Duty brand," grinned Dusty Welch, Activision's Vice President of Global Brand Management. "They are providing us with compelling World War II video content that will take players back in time and draw them even further into the epic and cinematic Call of Duty experience."

"The Military Channel takes viewers behind the lines with the highest quality video programming, and we're excited to help bring that spirit to the most authentic WWII first person action game in interactive entertainment," added Military Channel General Manager David Karp. "Our relationship with Activision is another pivotal step in growing the Military Channel brand and puts our name and content in front of a passionate audience of potential viewers."

The Military Channel has donated a handful of historical vignettes that will be laced throughout the game, and in return, Activision will be compensated with a half-hour "The Big Red One: Behind the Game" making-of special and historical peek at the real-life accomplishments of The Big Red One. The feature will be produced by Greedy Productions and air on November 1st at 9PM/EST. Be sure to set those TiVos.
