Arena Football gets its game on in nationwide retail.
Published: February 7, 2006
If years of successive Madden games have got you singing the gridiron blues, perhaps a heaping dose of fast-paced, over-the-top (...of the walls, that is) pigskin is just what the doctor ordered. From the crew at EA Tiburon comes Arena Football, the newest flavor of football under Electronic Arts ownership, and it just happens to be sprinting to retail as we speak.
"EA is the premiere sports videogame developer and we're thrilled to have worked with them on this project," opined Glenn Horine, President, AFL Properties. "EA Sports Arena Football captures the passion of our sport and gives fans an opportunity to experience the action for themselves."
Players can kick off the eight-on-eight action any way the please, most involvedly through a Franchise Mode, which will require some smart team management, trading, and signing of free agents (and, uh, actually winning) to make it to the ArenaBowl championship. For the more inventive types, create an AFL team and take 'em to the top, or even take charge of 30+ unlockable "historic" teams, including the Anaheim Piranhas and Iowa Barnstormers
On the gridiron, the snazzy new Be the Receiver feature lets you do just that, taking control of him right from the snap and or create routes on the fly. Also here is a new Telemetry system, providing real-time stats on your opponent, from tendencies to player health and fatigue levels, to allow for an immediate exposure of their weaknesses. Yeah, that's right, play dirty.
"The AFL was an amazing league to work with and we strived to create a game that accurately depicts their unique brand of football," explained Mike Taramykin, Senior Producer, EA Tiburon. "Arena Football has features that will appeal to both AFL fans and sports fans alike."
Arena Football hits shelves with an E10+ rating and a $29.99 price tag that's sure to catch an eye or two. Will it be yours?
