Extremely Impressive Extreme G 3 Shots

Acclaim's lightning-fast racer keeps looking better and better every time we see it. Latest shots inside.

Extreme G always had a nice sense of style, but the hardware limitations of the N64 kept it from really showing off in terms of speed and level design. Sure, the levels were pretty wild, but the camera was often plastered on your car so tightly that you couldn't even see most of the track. Thanks to the PS2, however, we're able to see more of the track, more of the vehicles, more of the weapon effects, and more of Acclaim Studios Cheltenham's techno-flavored world.

Speaking of techno, the music on the soundtrack should be anything but grating (unless you're a dedicated techno-hater, then we can't do anything for you), thanks to the inclusion of Ministry of Sound tunes. The UK uber-group that literally makes up almost every big name in the world of techno will be providing the aural backbone to your races.

On the visual side, the added "oomph" of 128-bit processing power has given way to huge, open environments that absolutely explode with life. Trackside details like trees that will swing softly from side to side, and skyscrapers absolutely dwarf the tracks help punctuate the already futuristic, fast-paced world. Weapon effects burp heavy shades of greens, blues and reds all over the tracks, cars, and roadside objects, and above all, it runs FAST.

But, words can only do so much, so take a look at the game in action as decide for yourself. Serious competition for WipEout Fusion? Only time (and full version of both copies) will tell, but it's nice to see some competition in this genre.

I think the word yum will pop up a couple times
